Howto rip DVDs by timecodes on Mac OS X

From How2s

To get clips from a DVD use YadeX.

YadeX is the only free solution that will let you dive into not only the individual chapters, not only the individual Cells, but the very small Objects that actually make up the VOB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VOB) stream. Chapters are, at minimum, minutes of video. Cells are seconds of video, usually less than 10. Objects are the individual portions of the MPEG-2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-2) stream at each GOP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_of_pictures) point, so there may be as many as 1000 Objects for 10 seconds of video.

5-20 seconds of video at a time is exponentially less wieldy than working with chunks as large as chapters.
