How to Geotag Your Digital Photos With Any GPS on a Mac
From How2s
If you have a GPS device and a digital camera and both clocks are in sync, you can take the geolocation of the GPS and map it to the timestamp of the image.
All the tools required to do this are available for free on the Mac:
- GPS PhotoLinker: http://www.earlyinnovations.com/gpsphotolinker/ works on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5
- GPSBabel: http://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html to convert the GPS files into GPX
Installation
1.) You need to install GPS Babel. This software is free software, you can either compile it or just install it manually. To install it manually, you need two files:
- the binary file "gpsbabel"
- the GUI file for the user interface "GPSBabel+"
Install your binary file by dragging it into your harddisk, e.g. under /sw/bin or any location which suits you.
Launch GPSbabel+ and choose the location of the binary if it doesn't find it automatically
2.) Installing GPS PhotoLinker is easy. Just download and drag it to your Applications folder

Importing
Importing consists of two steps. My GPS device records .log files (format: NMEA).
1.) Convert the files in a GPS PhotoLinker readable file, e.g. GPX
2.) Load the file into GPS PhotoLinker
3.) Load the photos
4.) Save the photos (it will override the existing photos)
5.) Drag & Drop the newly geotaged photos into iPhoto
Done!
